The Background

Quacked, the Anaheim Ducks fan blog, was conceived in part due to an ostensible dearth of such sites on the internet.  The truth is, many of these sites exist, but few are updated with any degree of regularity and many have already seen the sun set on their respective existences.  Teams in non-traditional sports markets face increasingly uphill battles in establishing dedicated fan-bases not only in their home markets, but across the country (or continent/globe, as it were) — a fact made conspicuous in the face of the faltering economy.  As such, it is the responsibility – nay, privilege – of the fans in locales where these teams lack a contingent of dedicated die-hards to pick up the proverbial torch of fandom and ensure that it remains lit, if only vicariously.

The Recipe

But who’s to say what the makeup of the perfect fan site should be?  The aforementioned fans, of course.  What brings people to virtual destinations and ensures a plethora of return visits?  The content.  It is the successful marriage of these two concepts that often proves elusive, and ultimately, also proves to be the downfall of sites that endeavor to do too much with too little.

Boiled down to nuts and bolts, the recipe for success is simple: deliver the goods!  That’s exactly what we want to do, and we want to keep doing it so there will be a reason to come back.  This will never be a site on the bleeding edge of Anaheim Ducks news, but neither will it fall into the trap of being a content aggregator (there are certainly enough of those in well-established, high-traffic areas of the internet already).  Striking a balance between delivery of informative and entertaining content seems a straightforward task, but the devil is always in the details.
